Sports Channels
Pirveli Arkhi Sport, known in English as First Channel Sport, is the dedicated sports channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB), the country’s state-funded public broadcasting organization. GPB was established in its current form in December 2004 under Georgia’s Law on Broadcasting, building on a broadcasting history that stretches back to Georgian radio in 1925 and television in 1954.
Its flagship service, First Channel, reaches an estimated 85 percent of Georgia’s population. First Channel Sport is a more recent addition, going on air on 21 May 2024 to give GPB’s sports coverage – previously folded into the main channel’s schedule – a home of its own.
As a public broadcaster channel, it is funded rather than commercially driven, and it streams live online alongside GPB’s other services so viewers can follow its programming without a cable subscription.
