Rustavi 2 has broadcast nationally since 1 June 1994, when it launched from the city of Rustavi before consolidating its studios and newsroom in Tbilisi in 1996. Founded by Erosi Kitsmarishvili with Jarji Akimidze and Davit Dvali, it is one of Georgia’s longest-running private networks, marking its 30th anniversary on air in 2024.
The channel holds a general broadcasting license and reaches an estimated 85% of Georgia’s population via terrestrial and satellite distribution, with regional bureaus in Kutaisi, Batumi, Gori, Poti and Zugdidi and foreign correspondents in Washington D.C., Brussels and Moscow. Its flagship news bulletin Courier has anchored the 18:00 and 21:00 broadcasts since launch, alongside the weekly analysis show P.S. and the entertainment format Nichieri, Georgia’s version of Got Talent.
